Default First e-mail in list is selected at startup

When WM is started, the first item in the list is always selected (while
checking for new mails it waits, after receiving the new mails it selects the
first one on the list). Is there a way to disable this? I personally find
this very annoying, because I use the option "Always send a read receipt" and
sometimes read receipts are sent for messages I don't want to read (and I
don't want to change to the "Notify me for each read receipt request",
because every mail I receive requests a read-receipt and it would be
troublesome).

Thanks.
