Default Can't open files that are already open by another user

I have a network that has XP and Vista on it. If any of the vista machines
try and open a file that is already opened on another machine vista hangs
until the file has been closed. If an XP machine tries to open a file
already open on another machine you see the dialog box "the already open do
you want top open as read only".

What could be causing this?

The exact same thing is happening to me. It is only since the documents
were moved onto a Windows 2008 server.

Hi all,

the exact problem is happening to me.
I moved files from a 2003 server to 2008 server and now a person who
works on a desktop with windows vista installed is unable to open office
files that are already open by another user.

No problem for people who work on windows xp or 2000.

I'm in trouble. Could you help me?
Have you already found a solution?

Thank you in advance.
