I'm using Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.5.0.7 (20060909) as standaard
mail program for years now, and I haven't seen this problem before. Windows Vista RC2 won't accept it to be my default emailapplication. Every time I start Thunderbird, I will get the message: "Do you want to use Mozilla Thunderbird as the default mail application?" I allways check "don't ask this question again" and click on Yes, but I still get that message every time. As I said before, in other versions of Windows I never had this problem. Thanks for any tips H.M. |

Under Tools-Options-General, do you show a check mark in the use as
default mail? Are you using any other mail program? On the start menu under All Programs-Default Programs, do you have it set as the default? I just noticed when I tried to set it to default, I got a message that
is could not be set to default because a registry key could not be updated. I will explore if I can get it to work correctly. See if you can get it to work via Control Panel | Default Programs and see
if you can set it default there. Also see what Clark suggested. steve "H.M" wrote in message ... I have checked the mail-option under Tools-Options-General,
and then click 'OK', but the next time I look there, the check is gone again. "Control Panel - Default Programs, and I can't seem to add it either. I can't even uncheck all three options for Windows Mail there. I can only uncheck the last option "E-mail link" Under "Set program access and computer defaults" it says: Choose a default e-mailprogram - "Use my current e-mail program"is checked and "Enable acces to this program" is checked. And still Thunderbird keeps asking me "Do you want to use Mozilla Thunderbird as a default mail application." Weird, huh? Perhaps just a bug in the RC release? Sorry, but I don't know how to fix that then.
The information should be under this key, but its probably TBird is not setting anything there. You might check. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail steve "H.M" wrote in message ... Have you tried turning off UAC and then selecting again. Right now, I have
Thunderbird set as default and the check marks on Mail and News are there. Next I will turn UAC back on and see if they stay. Clark "H.M" wrote in message ... I did try to open the default selection inside Outlook and all of those
options were grayed out. I have not seen one message from the UAC when I try to make changes, just the one about the registry not being accessible. I seem to have mine set and I get no message from Thunderbird about being default. What do you show as default, I assume Windows Mail? In the area you mention ("Set program access and computer defaults" ) for e-mail, it should show Use current e-mail and have windows mail checked. Thunderbird should not be checked here. I am currently running Outlook 2007 but there is no option for using that as a default mail client. Clark "Steve Cochran" wrote in message ... Sorry, but I don't know how to fix that then. Steve:
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Clients\Mail it still says "Windows Mail". Can I manually change that? And what exactly should I put there? Only "Thunderbird" or "Mozilla Thunderbird"...or the complete link to Thunderbird.exe? Clark: What is "UAC"? Thanks again, guys. I think we're close to solving this little bugger :-) H.M "Clark" wrote in message ... Have you tried turning off UAC and then selecting again. UAC (User Account Control) is a security put in place to make sure changes
to your system are being made by you and not some hacker. If you want to try it, go to your user account and select the "turn on or off User Account Control". You have to reboot for it to take effect. Don't forget to change it back. At the present time, I am still not convinced that has to be done but there seem to be some strange indications in this area the way the default is handled. Maybe you found a bug!
