I have been having trouble networking my two computers. My XP computer can
view files on my Vista computer, but my Vista computer cannot view files on my XP computer. I have been trying for weeks to fix this, but everytime I try to view my XP computer from my Vista computer I get the following message: "\\Computer4 is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Access is denied." What is the problem here? thanks |

Make sure that you run XP's home network file and printer sharing wizard so
that it will share with vista! http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l.../bb727037.aspx Have a read of the above link re Vista File and Printer Sharing. How to give Permissions are there, too. If you are running Norton, etc’s Firewall, check its settings. 1st thing to do is make sure that the Workgroup Name of ALL the computers is the SAME. In Vista Network and Sharing: Network Discovery: ON (So it can see the other computers) Network set to Private (Public is for hotspots, airports, etc) File Sharing: ON Public Folder Sharing: ON (Vista’s Public Folder is the same as XP’s Shared Docs) Password Protected: OFF (unless you want to set up identical usernames and passwords on ALL computers in your Network) If you have it ON, you will be asked for a username and password when you try to access a Vista computer from an XP computer. Also, run the XP’s Home Network File and Printer sharing Wizard. "bobman" wrote: I have been having trouble networking my two computers. Just how complicated is this going to get? How much work is involved in
running Windows on a clean boot? Should I have to go through all of this? When a person is running two XP computers, it's a snap to network the two computers. Now that Vista is around, it's more difficult. Doesn't sound like progress to me.... "Robert L. (MS-MVP)" wrote: For a troubleshooting, try to start both computers with clean boot. Bobman:
I just went through 4 days of troubleshooting with an open ticket with Microsoft. Never got past first base with the morons. So I finally took drastic steps and I disconnected my Wireless connection on my Vista laptop and connected it directly do the 5 port switch on the hub and it worked. In my case, it has something to do with the wireless connection. Are you connected via a wireless connection? Look up my posts. Bikini Browser (787) 637-9100 "bobman" wrote in message ...
