Since upgrading to RC2 (from RC1) this is happening all the time. I get the
new mail sound, but there isn't any new mail. Nothing in junk either.

The new mail indicators show and sound for news posts as being new mail.

I'm beginning to think that the development team for Windows Mail were on
crack.

Which app is issuing the new email notification? In my case, WLMb is
checking my hotmail account, it then takes WLMd sometime to actually check
Hotmail also and display the new mail in my Inbox. The two aren't on the
same schedule for checking for new mail so Messenger often knows about new
mail minutes before WLMd

I gave my combination as example only, that's why I asked which app was
providing him with the new mail notification. He could be using any
messenger type app and still get the same results, two apps checking the
same mail location at different intervals, one will tell you *you've got
mail*, but if the mail app hasn't check your inbox yet it's not going to
show the new mail.

They are builds of Windows Vista, WM, - and do not include WLMd. beta.

That does not happen for me using WLMd beta on Win XP SP2.

I'm using WLMd on Vista RC 2 x64 along with WLM 8.1 beta and have experience
his "false" notifications. Messenger is just on a different schedule and I
haven't taken the time to coordinate the two. Just figured he could be
having a similar "problem" with the difference in timing.

Since I'm using x64 there is no upgrade process. All the same I would never
upgrade any OS - beta or final release - just too many issues looking for a
reason to act up.
