DVD/CD unit is not operating propeerly
Hi
Recently this unit is not recognising pre-recorded or formatted discs which it previously had recognised. I have a HP laptrop and the drive is a mat****a DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA. I have tried deleting and reinstalling the driver with no success. In one of the forums it is suggested that the 'UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" in the HKEY registry be deleted but I am not sure about doing this without someone in the know gives it their OK. Can you help please. |

The Upper/Lower filters fix is for when the optical drive is not showing at
all in Device Manager. Unfortunately, in your case, it appears to be showing..... it's the disks themselves that are not being read and I think it's more likely that the drive has failed or is failing. Is this problem both with DVDs AND CDs or with only one format? -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging www.coribright.com/windows "4George" wrote in message ... George,
The upper/lower filters thing is an MSFT recommendation. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/929461 Before doing that, try your "unreadable" discs on another PC and see if they are Ok. Ok i have a problem
Last night i was riping a cd onto media player and after i was done the cd drive on my laptop wouldnt open. After i went to school and it shut down it open and i put a new cd in their. Now the problem is the cd drive isnt recognizing that there is a cd in the drive. I go to rip in my media player and it says you have to have a cd in there, when there is one in there. What happened? I have a toshiba satellite P200D/P205D Series, a few weeks old "Cari (MS-MVP)" wrote: The Upper/Lower filters fix is for when the optical drive is not showing at all in Device Manager.
