Default Files missing after a restore-related crash

When I logged on to my computer this morning, my desktop was black, I wasn't
able to change it to a picture, all my desktop icons were missing, and my
Windows theme was changed from Basic to Aero. I decided that my computer had
probably auto-restored to an ancient restore point for some reason, and
figured I might as well add all my desktop icons back to their places. I
found the file UsersMyNameDesktop, and all my normal icons were there. A
majority of them were shortcuts, so I copied them over to the desktop, but 5
or so of them were folders. When I tried to copy them, it was going to take
several hours, so I simply cut and paste them to the desktop. I later
restarted my computer and when I logged back on, everything was back to
normal, but my folders, the only things I moved out of my
UsersMyNameDesktop folder, were gone. For a while, I could use LiveSearch
to find the files, but Windows would give me an error telling me that they
couldn't be found, or referred to a location that was unavailable. Now I
simply can't find the files. My theory is that I accidentally moved them to
a temporary user's desktop folder which was then deleted, or at least lost.
It's not critical to my system that these files be recovered, but they're
personal, and I do need them for other things. Any help would be
appreciated! Thank you!
