Default WMP11 refuses to play WM files (Vista build 5536)

Any time I try to play a Windows Media audio or video file in WMP11 on
Windows Vista, I get an error message that points me to the following address:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...nalid=C00D36B4

The only thing I've done since installing this is install Yahoo Music
Unlimited, which plays my WMAs just fine.

Anyone know how I can resolve this?

Did Media Player work before you installed the Yahoo program? If yes then
it appears that one of the DLLs used by Media Player was replaced with a
version of that is incompatible with MP.

I didn't try playing WM files in WMP11 before installing Yahoo (I'm a Yahoo
subscriber, so I had to install Yahoo to download the licenses for my music.)

However, now it appears not even Yahoo will play my WMA files. Most puzzling.

MP3s play fine.

WMP11 on Windows XP had a tool to repair your Windows Media installation.
Does such a tool exist for Windows Vista?

I don't know what I did or didn't do, but today, I launched WMP, it did some
crazy installation thing relating to URGE, and my WM files work now.

All's well that ends well, I guess.
