When I try to use the Search function in Explorer (search C:\), it almost consistently fails to find the file, yet when I do a manual search, the file is there in all it's glory. I've checked spellings, used wildcards, etc., but still Explorer fails to find the files. Any ideas? This is frustrating....:sarc: -- bistro intel q6600 cpu @ 3.2ghz - evga nforce 680i sli mobo - 4gb ocz reaper pc2-8500 - vista ultimate 64-bit two evga 8800 gts 320mb in sli - x-fi fatal1ty platinum champion soundcard harddrives: 150gb wd raptor and two 74gb wd raptors, 500gb wd sata pioneer 2810 dual layer sata dvd/cd writer - sony dual layer ide dvd/cd writer antec truepower quattro 850w psu - antec p160 pc case - viewsonic 19\" va912b lcd monitor |

I'm not on my home system right now, but will look into it. Please don't tell me that I HAVE to have Fast Indexing on in order to use the Search feature....I seem to remember I turned it off because it was thrashing my hard drive. -- bistro intel q6600 cpu @ 3.2ghz - evga nforce 680i sli mobo - 4gb ocz reaper pc2-8500 - vista ultimate 64-bit two evga 8800 gts 320mb in sli - x-fi fatal1ty platinum champion soundcard harddrives: 150gb wd raptor and two 74gb wd raptors, 500gb wd sata pioneer 2810 dual layer sata dvd/cd writer - sony dual layer ide dvd/cd writer antec truepower quattro 850w psu - antec p160 pc case - viewsonic 19\" va912b lcd monitor |

once the indexing is done it behaves quite nicely.
unless you told it to search the index and not the whole system that was a possibility. "bistro" wrote in message ... I'm not on my home system right now, but will look into it. I prefer (and recommend) the latter suggestion of searching the entire system.

I tell the indexer to do its job on both hard drive and all partitions.
