Default networking vista and xp missing internet connection

I have finaly gotten xp and vista to network together with no trouble through
a hub/router/switch, I can see both computers from eatchother and run
programs between them no problem. The problem is i have a connection to the
internet with the vista computer but not the xp computer. If i try resetting
the router and cable modem what ever computer i load up first gets the
internet conection.I have to force the ip adderss by making it match within
on number the vista ip. basicly shove the network down vista's neck. I have
went into the vista computer and made sure i checked the box to make it so
that any computer on the network can surf the internet though its internet
connection but my xp still can not see the internet.

I have tried using command prompts to ping the internet and ping my gateway
but that is no good. On vista i can map it out and see the gateway but with
xp even when it has the internet connection i do no see the gateway. is there
something i am missing in the set up of the network and is tthere a fix
without updating to vista and or taking a axe to my vista computer i just
spent 2 grand on.

thanks for listening to my rant of the day. D.D.

1. what exact router are you using? the output below tells me that
you have a public routable IP address and that the "router" is in
bridge mode or that this is a hub and NOT a router. please post the
exact model # and hardware version of this router. also, you should
update the router firmware to the latest available

2. once you have the router configured as a router, unbind IPv6 from
the NIC

Default networking vista and xp missing internet connection

that thing is NOT a router. it is a hub made by Linksys. so you will
only be able to connect a single computer. If you want to connect a
different computer, you probably need to power cycle the broadband
modem. your old DSL provider probably gave you multiple IPs.

buy yourself a GOOD router. that is the only solution worth looking
into. it will also give you some protection.
