Video error in Media Center
I downloaded Vista today and wanted to try out some of the online content.
Also, I wanted to see the few clips that comes with Vista and check how DVD's are playing. When I try to access any online content or play the recorded clips, I get a "Video Error" - Files needed to display video are not installed or working correctly. Please restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer. Also, I can not find any place in Media Center to play DVD.... I know I need to buy a codec to have MPEG2 playback, but the online content should be WindowsMediaVideo and have no problems playing! What is wrong here? And yes - the PC has been restarted countless times.

do you have windows ultimate/ home premium cause you should be able to play

Vista has a built in MPEG2 Decoder for DVDs.

I did not even realise that you could download different versions of RC1?
Mine is has "Ultimate" attached to its name :-) I have a feeling it is lacking the right driver for the graphics card. It is an on-board card with SiS chipset. Check teh SIS Website to see if your specific chipset is supported my MCE

I have been doing other things lately and had no time to check the answer from you. But during that period of time, I got another graphics card based on nVidia chips. This solved the problems and the errormessages regarding this part are gone. So I guess you were right in your assumptions that the graphics card was the problem. To anyone else reading this thread: Go with a nVidia based graphics card for now. It will most likely be supported. Problem solved!
