On three of my hard drives (500 gig capacity each) I have placed approx
450gig of movies in the sperate root directories. When I access this folder, it takes a minimum 10 seconds before I can access any files and for those 10 - 15 seconds, whole PC locks up except for the Green Progress bar - Remotely through my Modded Xbox, standard Xbox360 or laptops, I can access the files quickly and efficently. I understand that I have a lot of files and vista craps on about it. My question is, What is the Green Progress Bar in the Address Bar of Windows Explorer directly associated with? Is it loading into cache the video file dimensions, duration etc or is it just because there is a heap of files and, is there any way of preventing this from happening or a way of speeding up HDD 'initial' access. In XP Media Centre Edition, I had a folder with 20 thousand plus files and it took nowhere near the time vista does to access a folder with only 380 (ish) files. I should also mention, once the HDDs are loaded and running, they are their usual expected speed to access. Thanks if anyone can help. Rusty. |
