I bought a Microsoft Sidewinder mouse several months ago for my Vista (Home
Premium) 32bit system. It's been working fine since I got it... until today.

Part way through the day, I noticed the video I was watching kept going from
fullscreen to windowed. At first I wasn't sure why, but I've realised my
mouse keeps clicking its buttons by itself. Mainly the left, sometimes the
right. Intervals are random, but are sometimes quick enough to count as
double-clicking. This occurs whether the mouse is being used or is not even
being touched.

I haven't had this problem at all previously. The mouse hasn't been dropped,
had liquid spilled on it, or any other physical reason. Likewise, I haven't
updated/altered any drivers, for the mouse itself or for Vista, any time
around when the problem started happening. I've tried restarting the machine,
and plugging the mouse into a different USB port, to no effect. I can't even
put in a support e-mail to Microsoft because they need the mouses PID code
and, oops, the Sidewinder doesn't have one, at least that I can find.

Help?

If the mouse is a cordless mouse, replace the batteries. If not, try a
different mouse; the cable may be damaged and the mouse in need of
replacement.

Hi,

You'll probably find you've managed to hit the Macro record button (the one
in front of the two metal ones on the side).

I managed to do this shortly after I first got mine - confused the heck out
of me! Take a look in intellipoint and re-assign the one that's not
correct - one of the buttons will be assigned to "Macro 000X" or similar.

It's a shame you can't reassign the macro button (or the game button for
that matter) itself as I'll never use it for macros and being able to would
provide an extra couple of programmable buttons!
