Somebody out there to help ???? Thanks From Microsoft's voluminous information about Vista: EFS is not fully supported on Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, and Windows Vista Home Premium. For those editions of Windows, if you have the encryption key or certificate, you can do the following: • Decrypt files by running Cipher.exe in the Command Prompt window (advanced users) • Modify an encrypted file • Copy an encrypted file as decrypted to a hard disk on your computer • Import EFS certificates and keys • Back up EFS certificates and keys by running Cipher.exe in the Command prompt window (advanced users) As you can see from the list of capabilities above, it is not possible to actually encrypt a file using any of the Vista Home editions. To gain the capability, you'd have to upgrade to either Vista Business or Vista Ultimate. -- Bruce Chambers Help us help you: http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/555375 They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety. ~Benjamin Franklin Many people would rather die than think; in fact, most do. ~Bertrand Russell The philosopher has never killed any priests, whereas the priest has killed a great many philosophers. ~ Denis Diderot |

Encryption is not a part of Home Premium. If you use MS Office or the free
OpenOffice www.openoffice.org you can paswword protect a file. "fleur4" wrote in message ...
