apparently, vista rc1.5600 has problems using 3rd party divx software so
certain .avi files can be played in media player. i guess if you download
the divx software, it crashes explorer and also other programs you might use
to watch/listen to movies/music. i haven't tried using the media centre to
watch said movies (without divx)....but if anyone knows anything about this
issue, let me know..thank so much

I installed xvid by koepie (together with ac3 filter and vsfilter) on my
Vista system and all went well. For playback of xvid/divx I use media player
classic, because I'm getting out of sync issues in WMP 11 (only in full
screen mode though).

what are ac3 and vs filters? thank you for your help...i just downloaded the
same xvid by koepie...hopefully that will work. i have dvd santa...to
convert an .avi (with divx codec) to dvd format...but it won't recognise my
DVD/r drive. so then i attempted to use the converted .ifo/.bup etc files to
have a dvd burned by vista dvd burner...but it takes forever and ever just to
encode...after 30 minutes it had only 0.03% encoded! so i cancelled.
i haven't attempted to play .avi (with dvix codec) in media player 11
yet...for fear it will crash my system again. what do you suggest? and if i
download the classic (version 10?) player, will that play my .avi/dvds
without any hitches? thanks again.

Ac3 filter is for decoding of 5.1 channel audio, vobsub (vsfilter) is for
subtitle playback.

WMP 11 didn't crash here during playback, but got out of sync audio in full
screen mode.

Media player classic (not WMP 10) is just a media player that doesn't need
any install. It plays xvid/divx without any hitches here.

I don't know anything about encoding though.

I installed the latest DivX software from the DivX website and I managed to
play an .avi file without any problems. You may want to make sure the
software you are using is up-to-date.

I am also having an issue with divx and xvid. I have instaled both and when
I try to play .avi files it full on crashes WMP. When I try to play dvx
encoded .wmv files I get sound, but the video is all noise. when I try to
play the sae file in Real I get the vid, but not the audio.

The frst question I have is that when I got to the plugins list under
Tools/options I cannot find divx or xvid listed and Ithought in previous
versions that it was. Can ayone verify this? I thought maybe Idid something
wrong with both installs so I oled the link to wmplugins.com and redownloaded
and reinstalled both divx and xvid. Still having issues.

anyone else noticed the disconnect with installed pluggins with
WMP11.0.5744.6324?

After installing the latest version, I can finally play DIVX files in my
standard account. One curious thing happens, though. When I open most DIVX
videos in Explorer, I can skip through the video but if I open it in WMP it
always goes back to the beginning. Is there any way to fix that?
