Default MSN Music working in Vista 64 5728!

I have been checking this forum for a while and have seen that a lot of
others have been having the same issues with MSN Music and downloaded music.
After clean install on this machine running Vista 64 5728 and 2 other
machines running Vista 32 5728 I can confirm that MSN Music downloader works
and that previously download files play after confirmation. Yoohoo!

Hi,
Been looking at this issue;it seems;forever.
They got it almost right; for me at least.
It'll now download songs;but when I try to play them; it says need to
acquire license.
Which it try to do;but hangs. Acquiring licenses window pops up and; ???
stays there forever-no play button.
It's not synching up to their server.
I've used the usual workaround; by toglging the usebits; no dice.
So; for me at least.
Close; but no cigar.

Jeff, try this. Open IE and log onto MSN music using your login (.net, etc.)
click on download status (upper right), then click on check my
configuration. Let the troubleshooter load and if it offers to load the music
downloader, load the control.
once it is done it may reload the troubleshooter and say that there was an
error. ignore that and close the IE window. Open Windows Media player 11 and
under stores open MSN Music ( if its not there open it from the dropdown )
Sign in as usual and click on check my configuration. it should check out OK.
if it does you should be able to play your stored music downloads and
download music.
one thing to check, as I found out, is if you have been either doing fresh
install or upgrades, is that each time you change the operating system the
MSN music downloader will see it as a different PC. You are only allowed 5
PC's on the account for Music sharing, so you may need to delete the one
configuration that doesn't exist anymore. if you have already done an install
(OS) you will have to call MSN Music support to have that PC configuration
removed as to be able to open a slot. i learned that you can remove that PC
config. before you upgrade manually in MSN music settings but not after
changing OS.
Hope this helps.

Default MSN Music working in Vista 64 5728!

On two different computers, Builds 5384, 5536, 5572, 5600, and
5728- I have not been able to get MSN Music to acquire a license.

I've used their "troubleshooter" and it says all is just fine. I've
gone through authorizing, deauthorizing, reauthorizing- nothing.
Reinstalling the Music Assistant, uninstalling it, reinstalling it-
nothing. The window pops up, I click "I've already purchased
this song"- nothing, it just sits there. The "Assistant" and the MSN
Music site says "Synchronizing"- nothing, nada, never.

I found an alternative way to convert the music I *paid* for
into non-protected .wma files. Fuk this DRM crap.

Default MSN Music working in Vista 64 5728!

Hi,
Two responses;
To Noga;
Been there;done all that.
Even have gotten on a first name basis with many MSN Music troubleshooters.
LOL
Problem is not with slots; it's with synching to their servers. A
problem;which has yet;to be fully resolved.
In fact;have gone beyond that;diving into the registry;to toggle the
usebits;to get it to synch;like you could in XP.
With tier 2 MSN tech support;btw. Still no dice.
In fact;I've worked so much with MSN Music about Vista;they gave me credits
to buy more music.

To Michael;
Yup; I'm with ya there about DRM- A real PITA IMHO.
Tryed being nice;and bought stuff through MSN and even URGE;(don't get me
started with URGE; at least MSN is nice enough;that when you purchase music
with MSN;it's yours for good-even if I can't currently access it-with
$#!$!$%!% URGE; 3 times;and you're out!!! WTF is that?? I bought it; I don't
care how many times I want to redownload it;it's mine.)
BOYCOTT URGE
And with respect to DRM; I'm heading your way.
Get my own tunes; without DRM crap.

Default MSN Music working in Vista 64 5728!

It was so much easier before Microsoft took away
the ability to backup and restore your licenses like
you could in WMP 10.
WMP 11 was the end to easy, the end to me buying
anymore music online.
