I have about 3,500 files, spread between about 1,500 folders, and I want to
view all files at once in one big list. I was wondering is it possible to extract all the files from the folders and put them in one big list. I have windows xp. |

If the files have something in common e.g. their name or extension, you can
search by that and cut and paste the files into a new folder. This is a Vista forum not XP. In the future, please post to the appropriate forum. "Johnny Rice" Johnny wrote in message ... Hi, Johnny.
I have windows xp. Then you might have better luck in one of the many WinXP NGs, rather than here in VISTA file management. ;^} I don't know about VIEWING 3,500 files at once, but you probably can print a list of them all - if you insist. Have a look at: How to add the Print Directory feature for folders in Windows XP and in Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=321379 RC -- R. C. If they are subdirectories under one folder, you could do a dir/s or dir/s/w at the command prompt, and pipe it to a text file: -dir /s C:\test.txt- Johnny Rice;597414 Wrote: I have about 3,500 files, spread between about 1,500 folders, and I want to view all files at once in one big list. You can use a search and use * or *.* as the search parameter, then all
files and folders will show up in the search window. "Johnny Rice" Johnny wrote in message ... Good idea but using wild card characters only shows files and folders, it does not open sub-directories and list the files in one continuous list. A quick Google search came up with this http://tinyurl.com/2sbdto I haven't ever used the program but maybe someone reading here has and can comment on it. Hope this helps Dave |

You can add a "Folder path" column in details view and sort by that column.
However it sorts and lists the folders first, then completes the list with the files sorted by their folder path. "Dave" wrote in message ... "Gary Mount" wrote in message ... Have you got "show sub folders" enabled?
