Default Unable to open streaming video via MMS:// protocol

Unable to open streaming video via MMS:// protocol (related: .asx & .wmv)

Dear All,

I also do encounter problems in playing back Streaming Windows Media files
from our server.

We are currently testing Windows Vista:
- Windows Vista RC 1 build 5600
- Windows Media Player 11 version: 11.0.5600.6276
- Internet Explorer 7+ version: 7.0.5600.16384

In IE7, after clicking the link to the streaming video file, via .asx, WMP11
opens and generates an error message.
The error code is C00D1197.
When i directly enter the mms:// url in the address bar of IE7 the same
error occurs.
When i enter the mms:// url in WMP11 via File - Open url... the video does
not play and the same error message occurs.

I also did replace the domain name in the url by the correct ip address.
Unfortunately this also does not work.

In WMP11 under Tools menu, Options..., tab Network: all protocols for MMS
urls are selected and the streaming proxy settings are set to autodetect.

Our Streaming Windows Media server runs on Windows 2000 server with Windows
Media Services 4.1 enabled.
The streaming server runs without any problems.

Does anybody know the solution?
Do you encounter the same problems?
Please let me know.

With kind regards,

Guido - Maastricht (NL).

Ensure WMP and any apps that use it are closed, then delete the following
folder:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Window s Media

It will get recreated by WMP.

Dear Jon Abbott,

Your suggestion does not solve the problem.
The same error message, with code C00D1197 appears again.

Kind regards, Guido.
