Default Playing MPEG Files in Media Center

Hi Guys,

I'm having problems playing an MPEG file in Media Center. I ripped one of my
DVD's onto my machine and then used VOB2MPEG to convert the vob files into an
MPEG, with the view of them streaming the video through into the living via
my xbox. Unfortunatly tho, when I try to play the mpeg file media center
informs me that the codec for the file is unavailabe. I currently have the
Nvidia mpeg decoder installed and I can play the same file in Media player,
just not in Media Center. I am really confusfused Any help you could give
would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Barry

I am having a similar issue. I used to use Windows Media Center 2005 to
stream to my xbox 360. In that setup i had no problems playing Mpg files on
my xbox 360 as a media center extender. Now that i have started using Vista
RC2, WMV files play, but the same exact mpg files that played before, no
longer play and give me that error. On Windows Media Center 2005 i did not
have to install any sort of codec or anything to get that functionality
working, it just worked. Not sure what i have to do now. I really hope this
isnt how they expect it to work in the RTM. Losing the ability to play Mpg
files is not what i would consider an upgrade.

It is something broken since post-RC1 5600. In an effort to fix a duration
bug with mpeg2, the ability to stream it to x360 clients got broken. A quote
of a MS Engineer since before 5728 said they had it fixed internally and
would show up in the next test release (which was 5728, 5734 and now 5744).
Still broken, leaving more than a few people wondering if it will actually
work in RTM. No way around it, except to comvert to wmv, which is one of the
worst conversions to have to do, IMO.
