Hi,
I just upgraded to Vista Business on my laptop and I can't get it to connect to the internet using my Netgear Wireless Ethernet Bridge. The Network Identification process identifies the wired LAN and the wireless network, tells me I'm connected to multiple networks and only grants me Local access. I can connect to LAN devices on the other end of the bridge but it won't connect outside of my subnet. I have an XP desktop machine that uses the same bridge to connect to the DSL router downstairs and it works fine. The laptop also worked fine when it was running XP. Any one got any ideas? |

Hi
I have similar problem with Vista (Ultimate), XP and Netgear. Both machines connect fine to my broadband modem and the XP connects fine through the Netgear WPN824v2. But when i connect the Vista machine either into the Netgear (with or without the XP machine connected) the interconnect connection on both machines appears to drop every 15-30 mins and takes 5 mins to recover. I have spent many hours on the Netgear support line but the best they could do in the end was swap out the router. Unfortunately the new one has the same problem. My previous Linksys router displayed similar behaviour. Conclusion - there is something odd happening with Vista? HELP too! Hi
Vista's TCP/IP stack has an ability to auto-tune the TCP/IP Window size - se Windows Scaling. Some routers and security appliances are not fully RFC 1323 compliant and they cannot yet handle Vista's stack. Go to a command prompt and open it as an administrator, Issue the following command and reboot your system, netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled ***Observe to ensure that the command shell returns an OK - to indicate the command executed as desired. ****You may have to navigate to actually execute the command - e.g., to netsh and then to interface and then issue, the command. *****Do contact your appliance and or router vendor and advise them of the SPI limitation and compliance issue ref RFC 1323. Hi Gerald,
Thanks very much for the suggestion. I've tried it and it still refuses to extend the connection from a "Local" to an "Internet". I don't have a DHCP server accessible to the laptop so I have an Alternate Configuration specified under the TCP/IPv4 settings. This is on the same network as the bridge and the access point. Not sure if this would make a difference or not? "Gerald" wrote: Hi Vista's TCP/IP stack has an ability to auto-tune the TCP/IP Window size - se Windows Scaling. Hi
Do u get the same error using wired and/or wireless connection to Netgear? Try disabling IPv6 and setting static ip on IPv4. Check the router firmware level. Disable all firewalls and AV/Spyware temporarily. I am using a Netgear DG834G Wireless and dont have any problems. "Andy1L" wrote: Hi Gerald, Thanks very much for the suggestion.
