Default Disk Defragmenter problem

I found out what the problem is, in my case at least. I don't have the
permessions to run disk defragmentation for my hard drive. What's odd
is that my account owns the hard drive, and I have full control of it,
but in command line, I fragmented the volume itself and it said "Access
is denied." If there's any way to counter this, I would really
appreciate you posting it here.

Just because this cowboy places a link to the MVP web page beneath his name
does ***NOT*** mean he is, in fact, an MVP.

All indications are that HE IS NOT

Until he posts a link to his official MVP profile do not believe his SELF

Err what violation?
"the C" advertises himself as an MVP and consistently fails to give any
details when requested.

I'm not sure this will work, but here goes. My Home Pre. will not even
open Disk Defragment. but you can do this from the Command Prompt. So,
Start | Command Prompt | type: defrag /? | enter. And, you can make your
choice from there. Ain't I slick.

Why is it that I can't see that it's working? I'd rather be able to

see it
running than hope it gets finished - and it never seems to. JMHO

Vista defrag works in the background when nothing else is happening.
It
will not show what it has done/is doing. It just does it..

Defrag never really finishes because files are being manipulated
constantly
by the user. This can be seen by the fact that, having defragged one
time,
going back to defrag a week later shows that fragmenting has occurred
yet
again.

So, rather than have the user decide on a defrag routine, Vista does
it all
in the background, requiring no intervention from the user. In this
way, the
hard drive is kept in good condition constantly instead of every now
and
again when the user decides that performance is being affected by
fragmentation.
