Default Lost 45 GB hard disk space

Hey again I’m here as a new user of vista and I’m going trough a bunch of
problems. As for now one day I ran the diskeeper and some how I lost 45 GB of
hard disk space for no real reason. After that I ran it again but it didn’t
help, I don’t know if it has to do with the diskeeper or maybe some other
type of problem with the computer applications. So any help you can give me
I’ll be thankful for.

Are you aware of System Restore Points and Shadow Copies? They can be
deleted as part of a disk cleanup (go to the "more options" tab). Of
course, you want to feel confident that you don't need the Restore Points
and Shadow Copies before deleting them.

First you need to see where it is going

Download a tool like spacemonger
http://www.sixty-five.cc/sm/

This will help you determine where it has all gone and then maybe people can
make some suggestions

Try SequoiaView or WinDirStat which both provide graphic maps of files.
These will show you quickly how the space is being used. Also, Disk Cleanup
Doesn't always fully empty the temp directories. Something like CCleaner
does a thorough job. These are all freeware and can be downloaded from the
major sites, such as majorgeeks, tucows, etc. Just do a Google search for
links.

Although it doesn't identify the 45 gigs does it say what folder(s) it is
in?

Hi, I am not 100% sure of this, but I think it may have happened if you
used the -normal- defrag mode on a volume shadow copy (VSS) enabled
volume. When defrag commences, I -think- the VSS makes backup copies of
files that are being moved about or something, and that causes an
increase in space occupied.

It's best if you use the -VSS -compatible- defrag mode of Diskeeper
2008 with Vista to avoid conflict between defragmentation and VSS. Not
many defraggers have this very useful option- Diskeeper is one of the
very few, if not the only one.

Again, let me reiterate that this is only a guess, you may want to
double check the VSS-Diskeeper thing.
