Please excuse my lack of proficiency in computer lingo.

I have a d/top computer running Vista Ultimate connected to a laptop running
WXP using a simple crossover cable.

In N&S Sharing in vista I change the L/A setting (Unidentified Network) from
Public to Private each time I log on (as this is what I was told to do for
file sharing). Now the ICS and file sharing work very well , but each time I
log onto Vista I find that this setting has reverted to Public.

Firstly- sould this setting be set to Private? and
If so how to I keep it from reverting back to public each time I log off?

Thank You in hope,

I have a nearly identical issue with my father-in-law's setup.

Let me ask you two questions:

1.) Do you have LLTP installed on the XP machine?

If not, you can get it he
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en
It should help the two pc's communicate better across the network as long as
their firewalls allow it.

2.) Do you have IPv6 enabled on the XP machine?
If not, go to your network settings. Right click your local area connection
and choose properties. From there, click on the button labeled "install" in
about the middle of the window and choose Protocol and then IPv6.
This should also help the systems network as long as their firewalls allow
it.
