Default Windows Live Messenger help

For some reason I can no longer open Windows Live Messenger. I have tried to
re-install it, which it says was done succesfully, as well as uninstall it.
In the Add/Remove programs I try to uninstall it and get the a pop up "The
installer encountered an unexpected erro installing package. This may
indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2330" I click OK
and it goes away leaving the program. I can't find anything in reference to
this problem or error 2330 online.
I have tried manually uninstalling it and it says I don't have correct
priveledges. I have tried to run CHkdsk and it says it can't run while the
drive is in use would you like to schedule it to scan the next time you start
your computer. I click to schedule and the window goes away with nothing
happening no matter how I reboot.
Any ideas ? Thanks very much in advance.
