Hi Gang
Just trying to enable SUA on vista ultimate. I go to Control Panel, "Turn Windows features on or off", and am presented with a stunning blank window! Okay, so some googling later, I discover this is a common problem, with no particular solution, other than a system restore. So I check through removing a few updates, wondering how far back (... months?) a dodgy update may have happened. Dreamscene never really worked properly, so I wondered if it was related to that. I try to "Uninstall an update", and am given the unhelpful "Not all updates were successfully uninstalled" message. Sure it's okay*! I click okay! I wonder if they'll change that caption to "punch yourself in the stomach" next time, to add injury to insult? So none of the four 'dreamscene' updates uninstall (KB929327, KB941236, KB933713, KB931133), not will bitlocker drive preparation tool (KB933246). Oddly, I can (and have) installed standard software with no problems since these things were installed. Anyone have any similar problems, preferably with viable solutions? I'm worried that SP1 will only make things worse if I don't get these (hidden) problems resolved. .... and, to make things worse, I couldn't enable SUA through the command line either. What gives?!? d * it's not really okay. It's pretty annoying. I don't want to hear 'reinstall' as an answer, as this takes some days, and *always* results in some data loss. |
