Default Any Way To Get Rid Of The Echo?

Audio playback on my Vista system has a horrible lot of echo added to
everything. Any way to turn this off?

No echo here (Heard).

Standard Questions:
What sound card and driver version?
Which player are you using?
Which Vista version are you using? 32 or 64 bit?

Any DSP plug-ins installed?

Note: I sometimes use the optical out for movies to my receiver. I
notice very quickly that I failed to turn down my Analog desktop
speakers (yes there is a delay involved).
