Default Slow downs and Hangs

Good day all,

Im just curious if Im missing any fixes that dont show up in
Windows Update. The computer will sometimes appear to be fine when I
turn it on. Other times it just seems slow, unresponsive and hangs on
almost everything. I could click the start menu or the explorer or even
have it hang on the control panel. Makes no difference I just get the
little blue circle for a few minites until all of a sudden it just seems
to kick in and does everything I wanted all at once. Any ideas why half
the time I turn it on it does this?

My specs:

Intel Q6600 Quad-Core 2.4 GHz
XFX Nforce 680i motherboard
2x XFX 8600 GT Geforce Cards in SLI mode
8GB of Dual Channel OCZ SLI-Ready 800MHz Ram
250 GB SATA Hard Drive
SATA DVD Burner
Vista Home Premium x64

Theres nothing in my start up programs but the usual items and all the
components have aftermarket fans and the processor never passes 45c
under load. The only guarenteed time that it hasnt become unresponsive
is when Im gaming, COD4 ran flawless the entire game on highest
settings... I couldnt stop playing! lol But anything that isnt a game
and the operating system itself can be really slow. Any Ideas?

It was the performance and reliability patch that came out in July--it
wasn't originally posted on windows update--not sure if it ever was
