I just bought a Windows Vista laptop and I'm trying to figure things out.
I used to have a personal XP laptop that I took to work(win 2000 network). I was able to login to the domain w/o being a member of the domain. I could access drives on that domain and print on the network printers. I can't figure out how to get my Vista laptop to do the same thing. I can access the internet, but that's it. What settings do I need to set/change so that I can access that network? |

I don't know your particular details, but the fundamentals are that you cannot actually log on to the domain without being a member. You can, however, use resources on any computer directly, and that is most likely what you have done. Computers may either provide resources publicly, in which case you can use them anyway (automatically via the Guest account), or you can log on to local accounts on the computers. This is all entirely independent of the domain. I don't know why Vista doesn't do it on the spot; perhaps somebody else can help with that. I just thought it helps to know the basics of this mode of operation. Hans-Georg -- No mail, please. |

You don't say what version of vista.
If it is Home Premium or Basic, you can't log onto a domain. If it is Business, Ultimate or Enterprise, the domain's Admin has to set it up,not you. -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "mterui" wrote: I just bought a Windows Vista laptop and I'm trying to figure things out.
