Default atikmdag driver stops working

My Acer-pc M1100 was born with an onboard videocard ATI Radeon HD 1250 which
only gave me the possibility of one monitor. So I added a new videocard ATI
Radeon HD 2400, which uses the same ATI Catalyst center. I have upgraded all
drivers to the latest from ATI's homepage.

But I keep getting the message from Vista, that "the screen driver
atikmdag.exe has stopped answering, will now be retsored" (I have a Danish
Vista and don't know the exact English message). Sometimes I get this
message 5 times in a row, and the BSOD and the pc shuts down and reboot.
Argggg...

I have seen on the internet, that a lot of people have the same problem.
What is the solution? Please? It's driving me nuts.

a very simple way I have found to bypass the problem is this:

start your system up, let it load, then simply logoff. Log back on.

Problem completely goes away for me no matter what and doesn't return until
you restart the system.

At which point you can simply just log off and log on again and be good to
go.
