Wow, was that ever a mistake to try to update my Cisco 1841 IOS from Windows
Vista... The whole system hung in the middle of uploading the new firmware, not even the task manager could end the java Cisco client or web interface. (I even tried ProcX from ghostsecurity.com to close it and no luck either) I ended up doing a reset while Windows was running to get control back, not even log out or shutdown options worked in this instance. It ended up corrupting the boot image on the Cisco, luckily enough I had backed up all my config files and reset the router from a Windows 2000 server elsewhere on my network. Avoid javascript interfaces to Cisco routers at the moment... even with the latest Java installed, the system will hang when you attempt a TFTP transfer to the router. If you must administer Cisco routers under Windows Vista, i would highly reccomend sticking with Winagents IOS Config Editor, it still functions as it was intended. |
