Use a USB stick for transferring your pics! It will spare you all the
trouble of incomptabilty of CD R's.

Because of all the "quotes" I find it hard to see if in any of your
posts if you mentioned what flavor of Vista you are running. The reason
I ask is a friend of mine has Vista home *basic* and he is having this
problem.
I am running Vista home *premium* and when I saw this post I had to see
if I could see my JPG files saved from win98 using Nero and then XP
using either drag and drop in XP and Nero. They all work fine.
Maybe we can pinpoint this problem yet! I am sure this has got to be
very important for all concerned. I know it would be for me.
You are saying that you can see the pictures if you insert the CD/DVD
in a XP machine?

How long will it take before we all realize that transferring files using
CD's is old-fashioned and faulty, and we will be using USB sticks instead?

It is dell home basic that was installed on a new computer just purchased
through Dell, and have no problem viewing the exact same cds/dvds on XP

I agree it is a way around this problem without actually solving it. Not all my pics are still on my harddrive so I can't see how that will be an option should I not have access to an XP machine

I just purchased my machine through Dell with Vista already installed. I
haven't tried burning anything yet, but I will definately try. thx

When you removed the CD from you XP machine, did you do a final
"burn"
and
make sure your CD was closed?

Hi - Did anybody get to the bottom of this? I have EXACTLY the same
problem as this thread starter and i am also using a Dell PC - the
XPS420 with Vista Home Premium installed.

I have 2 PC's, my old Packard Bell P4 running Windows XP, which i
burned loads of our childrens photos to CDR's and RW's and used the drag
and drop method through Windows Explorer as described by the thread
starter and cannot view the files on my new XPS 420.

I can view all the files from the CD's on my Packard Bell, and also our
HP's at work, but not my Dell......

I really want to get to the bottom of this.....as if its a problem that
i need to take up with Dell then i would rather get to the bottom of
this sooner rather than later.

I have also networked the 2 PC's together and have transferred the
files via Ethernet onto the new Dell and can view all the files without
any problems at all.

I would be really grateful if somebody could help me through this so i
can establish exactly the cause of these problems that some of us are
experiencing.

I have been doing a bit of experimenting and have found that one brand (
so far ) of media doesn't seem to work when doing multi-session, I will
not mention the brand because I do believe that some media works better
on some burners then others.

To rescue your JPG files I suggest downloading a program called
"Isobuster" it will extract most files from your CD/DVDs for free.
Part of the functionality related to the UDF and HFS(+) file-systems is
not free and needs to be paid for. This is the extraction of files that
come from the UDF [drag & drop software] or HFS(+) [Macintosh]
file-systems. So, all functionality is present, including scanning and
finding of lost files, but if you actually want to extract (copy) a file
from the UDF or HFS file-system you need a valid registration.
See if it works for you, extract your JPGs to a folder and burn them
again. Remember to test different media to see what works best, I use
and recommend most Japanese media is good ( if made in Japan)
