Hi. My dad and brother have separate accounts on this computer. Recently, the
both have logged on and gotten a black screen. Nothing worked, and on Task Manager, It showed that no tasks were running, including explorer.exe. Can anybody help? We were just thinking of reformatting, but Vista was pre-installed and we don't have a backup disk, only a HD partition with Vista files. I was wondering if there was a way to format the HD without deleting that information. Thanks in advance.c |

Hi,
Have you tried accessing Safe Mode by hitting F8 at boot and selecting it from the menu? If so, try your accounts or the default administrator account in this mode. If it works, we may be able to repair your logon in normal mode. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Cheese" wrote in message news ![]() Hi. I went into Safemode, logged on, and everything worked like normal. I tried
going back on regular mode, and had the same problem again. "Rick Rogers" wrote: Hi, Have you tried accessing Safe Mode by hitting F8 at boot and selecting it from the menu? Ok, believe it or not that's actually a good sign. Log into Safe mode, then
run msconfig from the start/search line. Go into selective startup mode, then move to the startup tab and disable (uncheck) anything recently added or unfamiliar. Click apply/ok and restart normally, see if you can log in now. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Cheese" wrote in message news ![]() I went into Safemode, logged on, and everything worked like normal.
