Default Update KB937287's aftermath

Ever since the update named above was released, myself and a LOT of other
people have been having serious performance issues with Windows Vista. A
good deal of this shows up in problems with multimedia playback and sharing
(like, for instance, streaming video from the computer to the Xbox 360).
With this is a gradual but very noticeable decrease in system performance
overall - everything from whatever Internet browser is being run down to
Windows Explorer itself becomes very sluggish. I just had Vista completely
stop responding to my keyboard, which had to be fixed by restarting the
computer (though I still don't know what caused it) - and on a machine where
a system shutdown and restart should not take more than two minutes, it took
five - bringing it beack up, the system is now more sluggish than ever
before. (Typing this right now, the system is lagging my cursor about three
characters behind what I'm inputting.)

Last week I tried reinstalling Windows Vista without a full hard drive wipe
- that did not work to fix the problem, and I can't even listen to music on
my computer anymore without it pausing every three seconds (literally) to
catch up on the data stream. I can't uninstall the update that is screwing
this system up, either.

The update in question is the same one that was yanked from the automatic
update because of the issues with it. That's a great start, but what about
those of us who got it and can't get rid of it?

Please fix this update or patch it - this is ridiculous. For a system that
bills itself as top of the line and carries such a price tag, I expected
better.
