Default System Crashing daily - Vista

I have a real mess on my hands.

Ever since I allowed my new computer (6 mos. old, and running Vista) to
download and install the updates available Feb. 12, it has been a horror
show. My computer is crashing at least once a day. I've tried going back to
various previous restore points, but then, after the "restore process", up
pops the message "System retore did not complete successfully. Your
computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An
unspecified error occurred during System Restore. ".

In addition I can no longer use task bar tabs in Wordperfect, to, for
example change margins. If I do, up on the screen flashes a message saying
that I've committed an error, then terminates my word processing screen.
Even if I bring up a letter I typed ayear ago and try to change anything,
Vista interjects and closes the application.

Does anyone have a solution?

Have you tried actually uninstalling those updates in start control panel
programs click VIEW INSTALLED UPDATES, and remove those from 2-12

I've followed your advice, found the updates I want to uninstall, and the
directions at the top of the screen that say to highlight the update, then
click "uninstall".

Problem is I don't see the uninstall button anywhere on the screen? Any
advice on that one?

Thanks,

Chipper

Try booting in Safe Mode and running the restore. That has worked for
me a couple of times when I've gotten the same error message.

Hello Chipper:
I think the update that has been causing assorted problems for a "limited
number" of PCs is KB937287. If I remember right this update is desribed as
"can not be removed after installation". The last I heard Microsoft is
still working on a solution to assist those who have had problems with that
update and can only suggest restoring the computer to a date prior to the
installation.......which didn't work for you. I don't have a solution for
you but if your pc is usable you might wait a bit longer and see if Microsoft
comes up with a new update that might help. Other than that, you might be
faced with re-installing the O.S.

::Chipper, my pc crashed awhile back. I was
looking around out in cyber-space one day and I came across this guy
named Richard Ubran that had a post you can reed in Microsoft Windows
Vista Community Forms under his name titled ***SOLVED*** What happen in
his case& N mine 2 could be something entirely different that whats
going on with your Puter. When you say your PC crashes everyday. When
mine crashed, it happen twice in the last year. When I just got it, a
brand new Dell, DimensionE521 OS Vista U can't buy one when I bought
mine a year ago with any OS but Vista. Anyway, when mine crashes I can't
do anything but wipe it clean and start fresh and that means putting
everything back on little by little. But if yours crashes everyday
Chipper what do U means?? Can U still use it? Before mine crashed, my
systems restore, like yours, would be half way done then it would tell
me it read an error wrong or something and can't go on. All my files
were the same and nothing could or had been changed. Try again later. I
did. Three times in a row and I would get the same each time. Then other
things started going hay-wire like systems restore. My problem like the
guy I found I was telling U about in M.W.V.C.F. one Richard Urban was
that we each had downloaded Spy-boot, Search & Destroy & it worked. So
we all thought that was good. Except what we didn't realize was Spy-boot
Search & Destroy was made for Windows 95. Why it worked with Vista was
just a flook. What we didn't know was that over the month's Spy-boot had
changed files in the registry little by little that caused things not 2
work which ended up crashing the PC. Chipper, get back 2 me & let me
know what U mean my friend about your puter crashing everyday,
okay.GeneTheIndianChief::

Gene, you have misunderstood Richard's post.

Spybot Search & Destroy version 1.4 had a problem working with windows '95,
not the way you put it!!!
It has worked with EVERY later OS after '95 with NO problems!

I still run version 1.4 on vista; even though there is a newer version,
1.5.2, released.

I've tried the various suggestions, and note that there are 2 updates that
cannot be removed, and am wondering if these are causing my system to go
haywire every so often (not quite as much today as a week or two ago
fortunately). Any way to remove the 2 updates that refuse to be removed.?

Also whatever MS did to my system with its idiotic updates, my Wordperfect 7
word processing software now crashes every time i try to change margins or
change the format. Anyone know a way around the problem. The software
worked just fine up until I committed to allowing the series of updates to be
downloaded and installed around Feb. 12. What a mistake.
