Hi there,
I just upgraded to Media Player 11. I have XP. I downloaded some AVI files and they play, but sound only. Perfect sound, just no picture. They automatically open in WMP just as they should, and I tried right-clicking menus to switch views, but the view is at 100% full screen mode. I get sound, and I get visualizations (like bars and waves, alchemy, etc) instead of the actual movie. I have looked around the forums but don't seem to see anyone having this particular problem. The files are from a P2P site, but I don't think that's the problem as the sound works fine. And mpeg files from the site play fine. Thanks |

You may need to download and install the correct codec for that particular video file type. Some may argue against the use of Codec Packs, but I've found the one at 'Vista Codec Package Homepage' (http://shark007.testbox.dk/) to be extremely reliable. It's DivX codec is more stable on Vista that the one you can get from DivX themselves! -- dzomlija _____________________ Peter Alexander Dzomlija -Do you hear, huh? The Alpha and The Omega? hey there,
there is a 3-layer mpeg codec listed for audio, but no video codec listed, just a - in the place where it would be. it does say it's a video file. and i have WMP figured to automatically download codecs and i am connected to the internet. however when i right click the file it does say under rights that the media usage rights are missing. i dont know if that matters or if there is a specific way to override that. i am out of ideas. The automatically download codecs feature is designed for ASF/WMV files. It *can* be of use for AVI, but it's not a sane idea for it to download untrusted/non-Microsoft codecs, and so it doesn't. =\ -- Speaking for myself only. I am having that identical problem since a friend of mine downloaded dvd
ripper/converter software on my computer. at first, COM surrogate would shut down and so would wmp, until i got rid of the dvd ripper software, and now all i get is audio on files that previously worked fine.
