Default Vista Business, trouble with offline files!

Hello!

I use Vista Business with all current updates on a laptop.
On a server (NAS, Samba V3.0.26a), are the application files in the
standard operation.
To work with the files works always smoothly.

In the notebook, I have some files declared as offline files and the
synchronization works smoothly.
At the offline files is a yellow circle with green arrows.
In the Control Panel / Offline Files / Disk use corresponds to the
memory used by the offline files correct.
When I use the notebook separate from the network, the offline files
displayed colored.
Up to here everything is still okay!

If I try to open an offline file it is not to open or at favorites the
Internet link is not available
If you look at the properties it shows the following: size: 323MB size
on Disk: 20KB

Why are files missing?
What is in the offline files defect?
Has anyone ever had similar problems?

Best regards, Thorsten

Welcome to the Vista forums!

I just read a Microsoft article that talks about offline files not
being available. Not having the business version I can't test it, but
take a look at the article and see if it applies to your situation.

'Configuring opportunistic locking in Windows'

If this doesn't help, please let us know so we can further research
this error.

Default Vista Business, trouble with offline files!

Hello!

@ Joe, Thanks for your fast answer

I have try to edit my registry and add the key:
-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\MRXSmb\Parameters\
OplocksDisabled REG_DWORD 0-

WITH THIS ENTRY VISTA CAN'T SYNCHRONIZE THE FILES AND I GOT THE ERROR
MESSAGE:
-The files can't synchronize; they are in use.......-

As second I have mapped a network drive to a Vista computer and set
some files as offline files.
With this constellation the Vista offline files works smoothly.

Best regards, Thorsten

PS: with SP1 or a new install of Vista the problem is still the same!

Default Vista Business, trouble with offline files!

hi

i am having the same problem with a laptop running vista business
when connected to the network, files open ok under openofficce

when i disconect, to work offline, openoffice hangs on opening documents.

i tested with wireless off, double click on offline file and openofficce
hung on startup. after a while, i turned on the network connection, and the
file finished to open. is this related to dns resolution or similar ??

thank you

Hi PLeite and all

That's different at my system!
If I work offline I can't open any offline file from my NAS.

LAST POST I WRITE:
-As second I have mapped a network drive to a Vista computer and set
some files as offline files.
With this constellation the Vista offline files works smoothly.-

So I think it's not a problem of Windows Vista.
It's a problem of my NAS Thecus N5200 or the file user permissions.

Maybe someone has the same Vista offline files and a NAS with Samba.
Then I'm interested in the files permissions of offline files

At 05.03.2008 I'm at CeBIT computer exhibition and I will ask Thecus
and Microsoft!

Best regards, Thorsten

Hello together!

The solution for Offline Files error is :

::*Enable the opportunistic locking at the server!!! *::

At my Thecus N5200 NAS with Samba I have enabled the File Access Cache
function!

Now all Offline Files works smoothly

Best regards, Thorsten
