OR -- you can just right click on problematic updates and select HIDE (Windows
will then not install the update or offer it to you until you unhide it) and you should also change from automatic updates to notify you of available updates or to download and notify you of available updates and then you can choose which updates to install. I Bleed Blue and Gold GO BEARS! "shrinkydink" wrote in message ... Ok here goes a TEMPORARY fix. My Dell support staff are contacting Microsoft to fix this issue on my behalf-I hope~! My desktop shrunk after a Windows Vista auto update on 3-02-08. I put up with this for over a week and several online chat sessions with Dell customer support (I have a Spanking new Dell desktop W/ Samsung 22" Mon.) This is what worked for me-WARNING-kindly attempt this at your own risk. Shut your computer down completely. Hit the power button (to power up) and start tapping F8. When the restore desktop option appears choose it. Follow the next few prompts with administrative passwords etc. Choose a system restore point or date before the update infected your system. Warning, it is possible you could lose info subsiquent to update. I have done this several times and have lost no information. When you select the restore date (pre vista SHRINK Update) follow instructions. It takes some time depending on the speed and info on your system. If all goes well the system will restart and BAM your good old BIG screen will restore Now the important part: Go into your Windows Update screen and select settings. (you can get here by typing it into the Help task bar) You will see options for Windows Update settings. Turning your update off wont work-it will disable anti virus software-I tried it . . . What you can do is change the day and time of the next scheduled update. Choose the furthest point in the week from your current date. Now dont forget to write it down because you will need to adjust this date every week (pre update) until Microsoft comes up with a fix. I know its a pain but two minutes every week to change a date for the update or tiny unreadable icons-you choose. I will post the real fix when Dell (if Dell) gets back to me. Good luck~! P.S. You think if Microsoft knows about this (they do) they would stop sending this currupted update to all of us???!!!!AAAAAHHHHhhhhh . . . |
