Default shared files on XP

I have set up a Network based on a Desktop Vista based, which includes a
wireless to a laptop Vista based and a hard wired XP desktop. This was done
to acquire old data files of the XP desktop and transfer to the Vista
desktop. That has all been accomplished. Those files have since been
removed from the XP but the shared folders still show up on the Vista
Desktop and Laptop network. Is there a way to remove these folders from the
Network since they no longer exist on the original XP desktop?

They should disappear on their own after some time, but that
time can be long.

I think you can just delete them. Any problems with that?

Hans-Georg,

Thank you for the reply. I am unable to delete any of the folders listed
under the XP desktop on the network. The option is not there when I right
click. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Hans-Georg,

It seems that I can attempt to delete the individual files within the
folders but it tells me permission is required. How to I assign permission
in XP? Especially on folders and files which have been deleted from the XP
desktop?

Chris,

if the server is actually there and if you have the permissions
to delete files, then you would actually delete the files on the
server, which may not be what you want to do.

I was talking about folders in the network environment that no
longer actually exist. Folders that do exist will not disappear
on their own.

For permissions please read the Windows Help. It is explained
there.

Han-Georg

It seems the majority of these files are folders on the network that no
longer exist. When I attempt to delete these I am told I do not have
permission. If I attempt to delete them while on the XP desktop, I am told
the path is not valid. Which is correct because they don't exist except in
the network. I would just like to clean up these folders off the network in
order to make it more manageable.

Thanks,
