Winows Desktop Manager Stopped
OS: Vista Home Premium
Desktop no longer functions. Everything is there (icons, background, etc). Task Manager is available. Start button 'shutdown, sleep, restart' stopped responding. Event viewer Info: Log Name: Application Source: Desktop Window Manager Date: 3/3/2008 10:18:33 AM Event ID: 9010 Task Category: None Level: Information Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Joy-PC Description: A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (3848) Event Xml: Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event" System Provider Name="Desktop Window Manager" / EventID Qualifiers="16384"9010/EventID Level4/Level Task0/Task Keywords0x80000000000000/Keywords TimeCreated SystemTime="2008-03-03T18:18:33.000Z" / EventRecordID201/EventRecordID ChannelApplication/Channel ComputerJoy-PC/Computer Security / /System EventData Data3848/Data /EventData /Event Also received Event ID 9013 at same time. Hi,
What were you doing just prior to this happening? From Task Manager, you might try this: On the processes tab, locate explorer.exe. Select it and then click on 'end process'. Go to the applications tab, click "new task" and enter explorer.exe to restart the shell. Failing that, from the new task prompt, run services.msc.
