After reinstalling Vista, cannot use Backup wizard to restore files
ON SUNDAY MARCH 2ND I DECIDED TO REINSTALL VISTA HOME PREMIUM BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER TO WORK. AFTERWARDS, WHEN I PLUGGED IN MY SEAGATE EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE AND TRIED TO USE THE BACKUP WIZARD I SAW THIS MESSAGE: -\"THE DISK CONTAINING THE BACKUP IS NOT ACCESSIBLE. PLEASE MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED ON AND CONNECTED TO THE COMPUTER.\" -I PANICKED AT FIRST BECAUSE I THOUGHT THIS MEANT THAT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ACCESS THE FILES ON MY SEAGATE, BUT I REMEMBERED THAT I COULD GO THE LONG WAY BY GOING THROUGH WINDOWS EXPLORER AND CLICKING ON FOLDER AFTER FOLDER AFTER FOLDER, ETC. I WOULD RATHER NOT HAVE TO DO THIS, ESPECIALLY SINCE ALL I'M LOOKING FOR IS JUST -ONE -FOLDER! CAN ANYONE OFFER ANY SUGGESTIONS ON WHAT TO DO, OR WILL I JUST HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT I'LL HAVE TO CLICK THROUGH A THICK MAZE OF FOLDERS TO TRY AND FIND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR. -- ColorStruck Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Posting in all caps makes for hard reading, is considered shouting, and may

I don't know what you're talking about, I did not post in all caps. I'm looking right at my original post right now (not the one you've quoted in your reply) and I clearly did not post in all caps, I posted in Comic Sans font, no caps. -- ColorStruck Posted via http://www.vistaheads.com |

Check your drivers. Did you also reinstall/update your drivers ?

After reinstalling Vista, cannot use Backup wizard to restore files
Actually, I have discovered that all the old files are on my c drive under "windows.old". The problem with the Seagate external HD is a Vista issue. After my reinstall, I can physically disconnect the external drive, wait a bit, plug it back and Vista recognizes it. HOwever, next time Vista is started up, it won't recognize it. -- 67walkon |

Hello, Like I said earlier, re-install all your drivers. It has to be done after reinstalling Vista. -- t-4-2 |

After reinstalling Vista, cannot use Backup wizard to restore files
Vista has never correctly recognized the Seagate drive. After the re-install, Vista sometimes recognizes it as an USB device and it works fine. Other times, it doesn't recognize it. Very confusing. -- 67walkon |

After reinstalling Vista, cannot use Backup wizard to restore files
Hello Friends, I have the same problem. I re-installed Vista Ultimate after it crashed and won't reboot. I got the same error message colorstruck got, and at first I thought maybe the drivers for the WD My Book HDD where the backups reside wasn't installed. So I went to my computer and looked all the six HDD in the system were showing that would mean that vista did install the Drivers. So what gives, why can't I restore my files from the backup? -- Mescalero |
