Default Firewall settings to allow pings?

Does the "network discovery" exception in the firewall include ping?

I can not ping a 5744 machine when the firewall on it is on,
Network discovery and Core networking exceptions enabled.
But the ping starts passing when the File and printer Sharing exception is
enabled.

Not very intuitive...

Vista x86 RC2, Network type = private.
