I have a strange problem with file sharing - I have an XP desktop, an XP Home Laptop, and 2 Vista machines, 1 running 5600 and 1 running 5728. The 5600 machine can see all other machines, and the 5728 machine can see and copy from the 2 XP machines and the D drive of the Vista 5600 machine. If the Vista 5728 machine tries to copy files from the C drive of the 5600 machine, it loses internet and network connection completely and can't get connected again unless it reboots. When this happens, in the router (a netgear WGR614v6) the 5728 machine shows in attached devices, but the name of the computer is not listed. As far as I can see, drive C of the 5600 machine is shared, however the XP computers can't connect to it at all. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is there a setting I've missed somewhere? Thanks in advance. -- etali ------------------------------------------------------------------------ etali's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=587 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24546 |

Hi,
I have exactly the same problem on build 5744 RC2. As soon as I try and copy a file from my Vista machine to another machine or use the other machine to pull a file from the computer the network dies completely. It has a valid IP, it get refresh one using DHCP but it cannot ping any other machine. It cannot access the internet at all. Repairing the connection doesn't solve the problem, the only solution is to reboot the computer. This happens on a Shuttle SN25P which is using an Nforce 4 chipset with an Nvidia network adapter. The drivers for this are built into Windows Vista. It's extremely annoying, with it being RC2 there isn't exactly much time until Vista ships. I'm not sure if it's a Vista problem or a network driver problem. If I don't copy files then the network works fine with no problems at all. What hardware are you other guys running? Thanks for the responses - I have the problem with any part of the hard drive, not just the desktop. Both the computers in question are running NForce 4 chipset boards with NVidia Network adapters, so it sounds like you're on to something there. What confuses me is that when both machines were running build 5600 things were fine. We only upgraded the other machine because of a massive problem with sound card drivers. -- etali ------------------------------------------------------------------------ etali's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=587 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=24546 |
