Hi my vista x64 friends, Sinds i made the switch from 32bit to x64 everything is a living hell. And this is been going on sinds december 2007. It was in that month that i build a new system. Below are the specs: Tyan i5000xt 2x xeon e5345 2x 2gig nvidia quatro fx1700 1x raptor 74gig 1x wd 250gig 1x wacom A4 tablet i tried xp x64 sp2 but then some software didn't do it al that well. after having vista x64 business from the msdn account from school i then immediately installed it. i have to say i am very very pleased with the nifty things it offers. the userfriendlyness and the gadgets etc. but then i noticed something very strage. my second WD disk with the 250gig goes to sleep and doesn't become available. now this is the problem i have been experiencing ever sinds. I even tried new updates, sp1 RTM various forums like Neowin, MS TechNet. nothing. the thing that scares me most ist that i am afraid this will not be fixed even when the official sp1 comes out and having installed it. i don't want to become like those MS hating mac users. but please someone help. all i want is to get the powersaving options or whatever they are called from my vista. pino -- pinogoof |

Hi Pino, Welcome to Vista x64 Forums. arty:Since you installed the XP SP2 on Vista, I would recommend that you do a clean install again with Vista. I'm surprised that it would install on vista. For you hard drive, it sounds like it is set to turn off to soon. See Step Two here to check and adjust it's settings. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/63...-problems.html Hope this helps, Shawn -- Brink *There are no dumb questions, just the people that do not ask them.* '*Vista x64 Forums*' (http://www.vistax64.com/index.php?referrerid=2980) *Please post feedback to help others.* |

He Brink, tanx for your quick replay. I installed both os's with a clean install. first installed xp x64 sp2 and used it for about 1 month then did vista x64 with a clean install. i have the harddisk set to it's default of 20 minutes. i don't want it to go down, never. and even if i change it to never it still goes down. it seems that a lot of people have this problem. check below links. Pinog, I'm not sure what else it can be other than maybe a BIOS setting, a SATA driver needing a update or reinstall, or BIOS flash update.
