Hi
You have to explain more what the nature your Internet connection is? How your Network configuration is? What hardware is used?. If it is a regular Modem (as oppose to a Router or a Modem/Router) then you can not connect few computers directly to a Modem. Jack (MVP-Networking). "peterno3" wrote in message ... The internet connection is cable, and it is a regular modem. The hardware is
an "intel(r) 82566mm gigabit network connection". The settings are all what the defaults are when i plug in the ethernet cable "Jack (MVP-Networking)." wrote: Hi You have to explain more what the nature your Internet connection is? If you want to connect 3 computers to the internet, you will have to buy a
Router! Get a 4-port one, and follow instructions to put your ISP's username and password in the router. Then you can hook up with ethernet cables! -- Mick Murphy - Qld - Australia "peterno3" wrote: The internet connection is cable, and it is a regular modem. Hi
If you are connected directly to the Internet Modem anything can happen since your computer is Networked directly to the Internet maintaining a Public IP (Internet address). Adding a Cable/DSL Router (even for a single computer) is a very good step to provide further insulation from the Internet and maintaining your computer as a private Network Device. See more here, http://www.ezlan.net/firewall.html Cable/DSL Routers (actually almost all of them are Wireless Cable/DSL Routers) are very inexpensive (prices in the USA starts around $20 on sale) and are available in every store that sells computer related hardware. Mick Murphy: I'm only trying to connect one of the computers at a time.
Jack (MVP-Networking): I'm actually at a vacation house, so i dont really want to put money into anything since I have it working at my house. Is there a way to do it just between the modem and the computer? "peterno3" wrote: Hi, i am currently using vista. I'm trying to connect directly to my modem, and it asks for a username and password.
