Hoss, I can confirm this problem, with the exception that my network is currently running on Windows 2000 Professional. I can see and access all shared resources on the intranet from the Vista server, but when one of the Windows2K or Windows XP systems attempts to access shared resources on Vista, it gives a "unauthorized permissions" message, or something on those lines. The Vista machine is setup on my local domain with the apropriate setup. Going to Control Panel and setting, NETWORK & Sharing Control Center" and setting Network Discovery, File Sharing, Public File Sharing, Password Protected Sharing, and Printer Sharing to ON, THAN setting up the appropriate share permissions & security settings has no effect. It still gives the same error message. As it stands, the Vista machine can access any of the other 2 Windows2K and 2 Windows XP machines. Each of these other machines can access any of the others, but neither can access the Vista machine. Something is not right in Vista RTM sharesville. Do you have NetBEUI installed on XP? -- MWAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MWAN's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=718 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26290 |

Unfortunately, I've tryed everything I know of but still get the same result. No computer on my network can access Vista. I have a 1 TB RAID setup that I'm attempting to setup as a shared volume. I've done everything MS suggested as well as the elementary suggestions given elsewhere on this forum. Seems at this stage, Microsoft has/is intentionally denying permissions for anyone to access any shared Vista volume. Why? Probably security, defender related. I've checked a half dozen other Vista support forums and others are having the same difficulty. The only response I've seen from microsoft is to turn on file sharing/permissions, etc. Of course, this does not help, and still the system cannot be accessed. Since no one here has responded with a cure, I guess everyone has just accepted it for now and awaiting MS to fit it on release. -- MWAN ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MWAN's Profile: http://vista64.net/forums/member.php?userid=718 View this thread: http://vista64.net/forums/showthread.php?t=26290 |

i have a laptop running xp and a desktop running vista.
i just want to connect them via an ethernet cable. a simple wired home network, and its taking up all my time. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...ple_config.asx in this video, vista has the option to configure a wired network. that option is not available in my rc1 5600. maybe i have to disable wireless or something? you can see it at the 20 sec. mark of the video... the last option to 'set up a network' is just not there! i don't even know how to google a problem like this.
