I am running dual boot between XP pro and Vista build 6000 Ultimate.
In Vista, I can attach to printers on the domain by opening the \\server\device in RUN and then logging on with domain\user and password. If I try to map a network server I get the same dialog box and enter 'domain\user and password. Then I get this error message : The mapped network drive could not be created because the foillowing error has occured : A Device attached to the system is not functioning I can log on to Outlook on the Exchange server with same logon and Internet and everything is fine. In the Network, I can see all servers. I believe that the problem only occurs with servers with DFS - Distributed
File system in this corporate environment. I also forgot to say that the computer is not assigned to the domain, only to a dummy workgroup. This has worked fine in XP, Win2000 etc. |

NEWT utility to find IP address of Browsed around other sites for answers -
to no avail. I tried : Logging on with user@domain instead of domain\user. Claim user/password is incorrect Logging on with instead of domain\user. Claim user/password is incorrect Enabled NETBIOS over TCP/IP. No changes Tried logging on from DOS box with various variants of NET USE. System error 59 has occurred. An unexpected network error occurred. Used NEWT utility to find IP-address of DFS server and tried various formats of users. No luck. |

SOLVED !!
Service 'Routing and Remote Access' is required for this. Go to control panel - Admin tools - services. Scroll down to 'Routing and Remote Access'. Go to properties and set start-up to automatic and start the service. |
