Default Question about IP address

Now my OS is Vista Ultimate, and I get IP from dhcp server to connect Internet
I mean my IP is like 10.x.x.x

When I was using XP, If I use ipconfig/release & ipconfig/renew,
then I can get a new IP from dhcp.

But now, the method above can't refresh my dynamic IP address
If I want to change my IP address, I must first set a static IP and connect
to gateway
then disable my ethernet adapter, cancel the static IP and use dhcp again.
Finally, MAYBE I can get a new IP.

Even I reboot or shut down my computer for a whole day.
When my computer gets to dhcp server
if there isn't any other computer is USING my IP
then I can't get a new one.

I want to know,
How can I refresh my IP address easily under Vista?

Default Question about IP address

Hi
It probably Not Vista per-se but the interaction with your specific DHCP
server.
You have to explain better what your DHCP is?

Default Question about IP address

Well, Maybe you're right.
But I really don't know the status about the DHCP Server.

Could you please explain how will a DHCP Server respond to
"ipconfig/release" & "ipconfig/renew"?

You can't expect to get a different IP address after doing
ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew. The DHCP server, not XP or
Vista, decides what address to give you, and it's free to give you the
same address every time.

Default Question about IP address

So,Could you explain why when I use XP, I always get a different IP address?
And why when I use Vista, I can only get the same address?

While I am using Vista, many of my workmates are still using XP
They can change their IP by release&renew, but I can't.

If DHCP server decides IP,
and DHCP server won't care what OS is connecting,
I means XP&Vista makes no difference to DHCP server
Why can't Vista get a new IP?

Or you mean it is just a kind of COINCIDENCE?

I'd turn the question around and ask why XP gets a new address. XP
doesn't do that on my computers, and there's no requirement for a DHCP
server to give a new address.

What device or computer is acting as the DHCP server on your network?

Why do you want to change IP addresses?
