Default getting rid of useless system restore

SR was bad in XP. If you did a restore, within a month you would be getting
increasing errors. By 2 months, you formatted!!

you're correct - that's what i do now instead of fooling around with system
restore that gives always headache

I couldn't agree more. I've never had system restore do anything substantial
for me. I often debate whether I should even leave it turned on. Probably
not. If I ever had anything major go wrong, I would be better off doing a
reformat anyway.

how can it be a virtual life-saver if one gets nothinbg but headaches and

You've ranted a lot about how bad SR is and said that there are problems,
but you neglected to mention any of the problems?

It can be a virtual life-saver because it does solve certain problems
very consistently.

What problem were you trying to solve? What went wrong?

XP or Vista - the SR is a useless program - it's makes the system even worst

Not at all true. It's gotten me, and several others I know, out of
serious trouble several times.

Does it have weaknesses? Sure. Could it be better? Sure. But that's
far from saying it's useless.

System restore has not worked for me either. Just says it is "unsuccessful".
Does anyone know how to get it working because I would like to use it in
some cases. And can someone also chime in on how you "reformat"?

What firewall, anti-virus application or security suite is installed? There
are some that cause problems which do not appear immediately.

There's an easy remedy. Instead of complaining about SR then just
disable it. If it works for you then there's no problem. I myself like
SR because everytime I load a program it makes a restore point and it's
much easier to retrace my steps rather than formatting and reloading
everything back. Agree sometimes SR doesn't totally revert back to what
it was before but I rather try everything before the dreaded reformat
and load!
