Under what alias? http://www.microsoft.com/communities...xp=&sloc=en-us Why is this an issue and what is the resolution? Why hasn't someone responded to this MAJOR problem? Because you're only posting in the IE General NG? (Perhaps not your fault.) Do you have a public Connect feedback number testers could vote on? FWIW I just did a search there with printer network and found there are still open items but none which also refer to 5728 or RC1. -- Thanks Charles HTH Robert Aldwinckle --- |

I am going to try a put this out in Vista, which is where I was the first
time. I seem to have a problem posting as I get errors when I do. Initially, I used the Beta Client to report the issue and then started searching the Vista Post. I have no idea how this ended up in IE General and was surprised to see Mary's comment. What is a feedback number and FWIW? -- Thanks Charles "Robert Aldwinckle" wrote: (cross-post added to Vista PF&S) "Charles" wrote in message ... Charles, are you using 32 bit or 64 bit Vista? I have no problems adding a
network printer, which is attached to a 32 bit XP box, in 32 bit Vista, but in 64 bit Vista it absolutely refuses to install, even when I point it to the correct .inf file in the File Repository. I've even checked the .inf file to make sure the printer is listed, and it is. I bugged this issue in x64 Vista Beta 2. At least x64 Vista now sees the network printer in build 5728 when using the add printer wizard. It didn't in previous builds. -- Jane, not plain ;) 64 bit enabled :) Batteries not included. I have build 5728 and I have a windows XP Home box with 2 printers attached that I need access too. I downloaded the latest driver for them and installed them on my vista machine. Then I tried to add the printer using the add printer wizard and by browsing to the machine in networking and right clicking and connect. Both methods return the error "access denied." All machines on this netowrk have the same workgroup name. The xp machine and the vista machine share the same user name nad password. Jane,
What flavor of XP are you using? I have a printer hanging off an XP Home box and I get the same "Access Denied" error when attempting to add a network printer. Hang the same printer off a Vista box and, no problem, add a network printer without issue. I wonder if XP Home is the culprit? I have an XP MCE box here I could try but it's on the other side of the room from the printer and I just don't feel that motivated to move them. Hmmm... maybe I"ll look around for a LAPC... I used to have one... whoops! Never mind... PC running XP MCE doesn't have a parallel port! Doh! Lang "Jane C" wrote in message ... Charles, are you using 32 bit or 64 bit Vista? XP box is XP Pro. Don't get any access denied messages at all. Have you
checked your sharing permissions on the XP Home box? -- Jane, not plain ;) 64 bit enabled :) Batteries not included. Braincell on vacation :-) "Lang Murphy" wrote in message ... experiencing similar issue. using 32bit rc1 build 5600 and connot connect to
any network printers. I can see 2 printers (1 shared from xppro sp2 box and 1 from xphome sp2 box) when browsing network, but receive error about lack of memory when attempting to connect manually. The add printer wizard comes back with "no printers found". Have never had issues using these printers from any previous os. I even tried to connect to one of them which is also shared from a w2k server but it does not even show up under that box on vista. I have not added the vista box to domain, just same workgroup as the xphome boxes which is also the netbios domain name. one more strange occurance is with a w98 box. i can access drives remotely (\\w98box\c$) however when i attempt to browse the box through network using domain admin account i receive "access denied" error(?) so i can't even attempt to manually connect to its shared printer. cheers Gerald "Jane C" wrote: XP box is XP Pro.
