Default Vista Home Premium canntom connect to ADSL internet

Cannot connect Vista H.P. to ADSL internet (NETIA, if someone knows what I'm
talking about). The same connection and settings work for XP I have on
another computer. They share the same modem, I just connect it to Vista
computer or XP.
Vista says it's an error 851.
When I try to set up a Phone connection (like it works on XP), the only
modem that's shown is an internal modem, not the ADSL one.

So, um. Help please?
(yes I know it's the millionth call for help with connecting Vista to
internet)

Hello.

I tried to research this issue and couldn't find many solutions. There
was one, that may or may not help your situation. Try to uninstall, then
update your network card drivers in Vista. As far as I know, an ADSL
modem won't show up as a modem in Vista, rather, a LAN or high speed
internet connection.

I hope this helps.

Hi
If you do not have a stand alone Router that keeps the DSL alive it has to
be done through the computer.
Your XP computer is probably set correctly with the ID and Password for the
DSL, the Vista is Not.
If this is the case contact your Internet provider and ask for help.
Otherwise give a better description of your hardware and how every thing is
connected.

Joe, you're right, the modem is recognized as high speed connection / lan
connection. I checked it and it shows correct speed, and it seems vista
transmits something through it, but does not receive any information.
Still cannot connect though.
As for the software, I'm using HP notebook and they come with all the
software preinstalled by the manufacturer so I don't have any CDs.
My ISP says it's manufacturer's fault, they say it's Microsoft's and so on
(I don't live in civilized country, it's Poland, this kind of situation is
normal around here).

If you are using a "phone dialer" to connect with the ADSL in XP then what
you are seeing is probably a PPPOE connection utility. This is a virtual
device that manages the ADSL connection and it does look and act much like a
phone
dialer. XP has one built in but it could also be a 3rd party utility that
was provided with the modem. It isn't active by default so you'll need to
install the same in Vista before you can connect to the internet.

Haven't used this connection method myself for years but here goes:

Assuming the above is true, open Control Panel- Network and Sharing Center.
Click on the 'Set up a connection or network' link and choose Connect to the
Internet, then click Next. When the wizard asks 'How do you want to connect'
select the option 'Broadband PPPOE -connect using DSL or cable that requires
a username and password'. The wizard will then prompt for your ISP logon
username and password plus a few optional selections, like a name for the
connection, whether to show or save the password and whether to share the
connection with other users on the computer. When done click on Connect and
Vista should create the PPPOE dialer icon for you and connect to your
internet account.

From what you wrote originally it indicated that you set up a regular
dial-up phone modem connection for your internal modem, not a PPPOE
connection for the external DSL modem. The two are completely different. The
ADSL modem will not show up in your connections or hardware lists, only the
PPPOE dialer itself will with whatever name you give it. There's no way to
tell from here if you've only made a configuration error or if there is a
hardware compatibility issue. External DSL modems don't require drivers for
the computer but it might require a firmware update for compatibility, if
one exists. The ethernet adapter in the PC does need Vista drivers and it
should be set up to match the communication speed of the port it connects
to on your ADSL modem --- sometimes they are auto-detecting and that works
fine but some modems work best if the ethernet speed is locked.
